Dates of Implementation/Duration: 2002
Partner Institution: Ford Foundation Philippines
As an IFP International Partner, the PSSC is tasked to help shape the Program globally and implement it locally. PSSC performs the main tasks of interacting with Fellows, from initial outreach to selection, through placement, ongoing support, and post-Fellowship activities.
Thirty-five outstanding individuals were named fellows under the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program in the recently concluded round of competition administered by the Philippine Social Science Council. The fellows constitute the first batch of IFP fellows from the Philippines.
IFP is a global fellowship program of the Ford Foundation that provides graduate education opportunities to exceptional individuals coming from sectors that lack systematic access to higher education such as ethnic or cultural minorities, individuals with physical disabilities, poor or economically disadvantaged individuals, and residents of poor geographic areas. The program is being implemented in 18 countries worldwide including the Philippines.
The fellows were selected through a competitive process that included a documentary review and panel interview. A five-man National Selection Panel composed of former UP President Jose Abueva, Senator Ernesto “Boy” Herrera, former IBM Chairman Ramon Dimacali, former Human Rights Commissioner Naaser Marohomsalic and former Secretary of Social Work and Development Corazon Alma de Leon carried out the selection process.
